On 14 July 2026, Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, led the Cabinet in a one-minute moment of silence to honor the victims of a nightclub fire that occurred the previous Sunday night. He expressed deep condolences to the affected families and stressed that this incident severely impacts the nation's safety confidence and image. Given the frequent recurrence of such tragedies, he declared it time for decisive action, not just reactive measures, elevating this issue to a "national agenda."
The Prime Minister also assigned the Ministry of Interior as the lead agency, collaborating with partner organizations including Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, local administrative bodies, the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning, and the Royal Thai Police. They will focus inspections on four critical areas: fire prevention systems (fire extinguishers, sprinklers, alarm systems), emergency exits (must be functional and unobstructed), building occupancy limits (no overcrowding beyond legal limits), and strict compliance with building control laws. The inspection results must be reported to the Cabinet within a 30-day timeframe.
Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, added that if any establishment is found violating laws or failing to meet standards, it will be immediately suspended and ordered to close until corrective measures are made and certification is obtained. Additionally, the Prime Minister has emphasized that all agencies must transparently disclose inspection results and progress to the public to demonstrate transparency and assure that the government is fully committed to protecting citizens' lives and property.
