Jeth Orders Strict Nationwide Enforcement of Safety Laws for Buildings and Public Venues

"Jeth" has issued a nationwide crackdown, urging all Ministry of Interior agencies to strictly enforce safety laws. Public venues with large numbers of users must meet required standards, with a firm reminder that citizens' lives must come first.,

On 14 July 2026, Deputy Minister of Interior Jeth Thaiseth stated that the Ministry places the highest priority on protecting citizens' lives and safety. He has instructed all affiliated agencies to continuously enhance their safety operations to ensure the strict enforcement of relevant laws and standards, aiming to reduce risks and build public confidence throughout all areas.

Jeth said that on 13 July 2026, he signed an "urgent" memorandum to the Director-Generals of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation and the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning. He instructed all agencies under their authority to rigorously comply with applicable laws and regulations, especially regarding inspections of buildings, businesses, and public venues with heavy patronage, to ensure they meet legally mandated safety standards. He emphasized strict law enforcement to prevent violations that could lead to loss of life and property.

He also ordered an expedited inspection of fire prevention systems, emergency exits, fire alarm systems, and safety equipment to ensure they are fully operational. Furthermore, he mandated regular development and rehearsal of emergency response plans and the integration of efforts with related agencies to effectively prevent and manage emergencies.

The Deputy Minister stressed that safety is not a task to be addressed only after incidents occur but must begin with prevention, inspection, and continuous strict law enforcement. When all parties act cautiously and adhere strictly to standards, risks are reduced, and citizens' lives are effectively protected.

"As I have always emphasized, ‘Prevention is better than cure’ because people's lives should never be sacrificed due to negligence. Therefore, law enforcement, inspections, and elevating safety standards must be carried out seriously and continuously. If I have any authority to protect the public, I am fully prepared to act. However, when incidents do occur, the government's duty is to provide maximum care for the people. We must respond quickly, minimize losses, and never abandon those affected, because public safety and lives must always come first," said Jeth.

The Ministry of Interior will closely monitor the performance of all agencies to ensure safety measures yield concrete results. It will also raise law enforcement to a unified national standard to sustainably build public trust and safety.
