Attracting Global Film Productions to Thailand: Supachai Follows Prime Ministers Directive to Promote Thai Culture

Supachai has been directed by the Prime Minister to review the Cash Rebate measures to build confidence among global film studios, with the goal of attracting major international film productions and investment funds.

On 14 July 2026, Supachai Suthamphan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, revealed after discussions with executives of the Motion Picture Association (MPA) that the Prime Minister has ordered a full review of the Cash Rebate system for foreign film productions. This revision aims to ensure that financial incentives benefit the nation to the fullest extent, with key conditions emphasizing local job creation, involving Thai teams and personnel, and generating tangible economic circulation within the country.

To date, the MPA group has invested over 1 billion US dollars in content production in Thailand, attracted by the country's strengths in culture, tourist attractions, cuisine, and distinctive lifestyle. These assets can be further developed into substantial merchandise, series, and games. The success of the Character and Content event held from 9 to 12 July 2026 clearly reflects the strength of Thailand's creative industry.

Supachai added that to promote the film production ecosystem, the Thai government and Ministry of Commerce plan to implement two key initiatives: a One-Stop Service for foreign productions to expedite and streamline the film permit process from initial screening to completion, and a copyright law reform to keep pace with international standards, particularly addressing AI and Deepfake technologies that risk misuse of artists' images and voices, thereby building maximum investor confidence worldwide.
