Prime Minister Discusses Drug Issues, Call Center Scams, and Haze with Myanmar

The Prime Minister welcomed Myanmar's Foreign Minister, emphasizing Thailand's readiness to be a "bridge" connecting Myanmar to the ASEAN family, and the importance of this role.

On 14 July 2026, at the Ivory Room, Thai Khu Fa Building, U Tin Maung Swe, Myanmar's Minister of Foreign Affairs, paid a courtesy visit to Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul during his official visit to Thailand.

The Prime Minister stated that issues directly affecting Thai people, such as drugs, transnational crime, and cross-border haze, cannot be resolved by one side alone but require serious cooperation. Thailand is ready to act as a bridge between Myanmar and ASEAN to enhance stability and open constructive dialogue.

Additionally, the Prime Minister extended an invitation to Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Myanmar's President, to make an official visit to Thailand to strengthen future cooperation.

During the talks, both sides agreed to accelerate cooperation in three main areas: stabilizing the border (including cracking down on drugs and call center gangs). Thailand requested Myanmar's increased efforts in suppressing drugs, online gambling, and transnational crime, which are national priorities for Thailand. They also urged Myanmar to quickly reduce forest and agricultural burning to break the cycle of toxic cross-border haze and to minimize the impact of border conflicts. Myanmar confirmed its readiness to address these issues promptly and coordinate closely with Thailand.

The Prime Minister emphasized that peace at the border will immediately boost trade, investment, and transportation. Thailand is willing to share agricultural technology and knowledge, such as crop rotation and land management, to help sustainably reduce burning in Myanmar's agricultural sector. Thailand also supports Myanmar's continued participation in the ASEAN community to foster a cooperative atmosphere and jointly resolve regional problems.
