Constitutional Court Judges Elect Udom Sitthiwirattatham as New Chief Justice

The Constitutional Court judges' meeting resolved to elect Udom Sitthiwirattatham as the new Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court and will prepare a letter to send to the Secretariat of the Senate.


On 15 July 2026, the Constitutional Court Office issued a press release stating that during the Senate's 24th meeting (first ordinary session of the year) on Tuesday, 23 June 2026, the Senate approved the appointment of Police Lieutenant General Chakrapong Wiwatwanich as a Constitutional Court judge under Section 8 (4) in conjunction with Section 12, paragraph ten, of the Constitution-Related Court Procedures Act B.E. 2561 (2018). The Constitutional Court Office was instructed to arrange a joint meeting between the newly approved judge and the eight sitting judges—1. Udom Sitthiwirattatham, 2. Virul Sangthian, 3. Jiraniti Hawanont, 4. Naphadon Thepphitak, 5. Banjongsak Wongprach, 6. Udom Rattamrit, 7. Sumet Roikuljaroen, and 8. Sarawut Songsivilai—to elect among themselves the Chief Justice and to inform the Senate President, so that subsequent legal procedures can be carried out.


On 15 July 2026, the joint meeting of the newly approved judge from the Senate and the incumbent Constitutional Court judges resolved to elect Mr. Udom Sitthiwirattatham as the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court. The Constitutional Court Office will send a letter notifying the Senate Secretariat of the election result for the necessary legal proceedings to follow.
