Election Commission Urges Public Confidence in Handling Senate Vote-Rigging Case, Affirms All Decisions Based on Case Evidence

Sittichot urged society to have confidence in the Election Commission's handling of the Senate vote-rigging case, affirming that all rulings would be based on evidence within the official case file before submission to the court. He dismissed the use of witness clips from discussions after the fact as inadmissible evidence if they fall outside the case file.

At 09:45 on 15 July 2026 at Centara Life Hotel, Government Complex Chaeng Watthana, Sittichot Intrawiset, a member of the Election Commission (EC), spoke about progress in the Senate vote-rigging case. He said the case review was not predetermined but conducted according to evidence collected by Investigation Team 26. The case was handled confidentially, making evidence collection difficult. Witness identities were kept secret for their safety. Scientific evidence was gathered with cooperation from the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) and the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO). Although some evidence had been collected, it must clearly show wrongdoing. If the evidence does not meet criminal offense standards but reasonably suggests the accused committed misconduct, the EC can refer the matter to revoke election rights or remove officeholders, even if it does not reach criminal prosecution. The final decision depends on the judgment of the seven EC members on whether the available evidence is sufficient for court consideration.

Sittichot added that witness statements made outside the official case file only create impressions but cannot serve as evidence within the case file. The EC will consider only evidence contained in the file and determine whether it is sufficient for court proceedings. Without such evidence, the case cannot proceed to court. He affirmed the EC would do its best but could not guarantee outcomes desired by some parts of society, as decisions rest with the seven EC members. The EC vote on this case is expected in August, as much review has already taken place. The public can still place hope in the EC, which exists to select good people for the political community.
