Athaya Withdraws from Serious Disciplinary Investigation Committee at Ministry of Interior

Athaya Nuanuthai has withdrawn from the serious disciplinary investigation committee appointed by the Ministry of Interior, citing concerns that his involvement might compromise the impartiality of the investigation.

On 15 Jul 2026 GMT+7, reporters noted that after the Ministry of Interior issued an order appointing a serious disciplinary investigation committee, Mr. Athaya Nuanuthai, Assistant Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, was appointed as a committee member. He acknowledged this appointment on 8 Jul 2026 GMT+7, the same day media reported that he might be investigated as part of a group of state officials involved in organizing and announcing exam results, serving as a participant in the central committee of local government officials.

Immediately upon learning of the appointment, Mr. Athaya reported to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior his resignation from the disciplinary investigation committee, citing potential conflicts of interest and other serious reasons that could undermine the impartiality or fairness of the investigation. His intention was to cooperate with the investigating agency according to legal procedures.

The Ministry of Interior clarified that the order appointing the disciplinary investigation committee was issued before news surfaced about Mr. Athaya potentially being investigated. The disciplinary committee will continue its work with the remaining members, exercising their assigned authority to seek the truth and establish proper legal standards and procedures. Once the investigation is complete within the given timeframe and authority, the results will be reported to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior for submission to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Interior.
