Sophon expressed pride in the House of Representatives' achievements, passing the most laws without any session failures and saving 4 million baht in electricity costs over four months.
At 10:00 a.m. on 16 Jul 2026 at the parliament, Sophon Sarum, Speaker of the House of Representatives, gave a performance report since assuming the position, titled "Report on the House of Representatives' Operations to the Public: 122 Days Transforming Parliament to Solve People's Problems." In the conference hall on B1 floor of the parliament building, he stated that under his and two deputy speakers' supervision during one session, the legislature served as a reliable source for solving people's issues. They passed 14 bills—the highest in 10 years—with cooperation from all parties. He dismissed criticisms of the parliament's lack of achievements as biased.
Regarding ministers' responses to questions, they answered the most, with 36 oral questions and 33 answered, based on cooperation requests. When some did not attend, rules allow delegation, and the Cabinet assigns accordingly. The key is accountability in addressing citizens' concerns. In the 27th House under his leadership, there were no session failures, showing development of MPs and meeting chairs' control. On objections to video censorship during debates, he said such censorship has existed in every era with committees reviewing it. He takes responsibility for any lapses. Censorship is not new but becomes problematic when rights of others are infringed, leading committees to deny permission.
He proudly noted that over four months, electricity expenses were reduced by 4 million baht.
Sophon addressed criticism about activities he initiated beyond his duties, such as flag respect, aerobics, meditation, and chanting. He said these are genuine personal development efforts, noting that standing for the national flag for even one minute reflects true patriotism. He also mentioned drug problem projects, stating that although not his official duty, he did not use parliamentary time for fieldwork. He views the parliament's role as solving people's problems and announced an upcoming educational workshop on 3 Aug 2026, non-partisan but involving all sectors to resolve the country's crisis. Meanwhile, parliament's energy-saving measures cut electricity costs by 4 million baht in four months.
He acknowledged ongoing issues with construction warranties.
"My vision for the future parliament is a legislature actively solving problems through legislative processes, putting in effort without costly crisis interventions. Laws that hinder the country must be amended quickly, and those that promote investment should be prioritized. Parliamentary time must be used effectively to enact laws benefiting the people. The government should invest in legal reforms to advance the country—this is the primary mission. The secondary mission is making the parliament a national pride and landmark. I am committed to making the parliament a tourism and educational site that nurtures democracy. We must move forward without clinging to the past. Given what we've achieved so far, I credit the collective efforts entirely," Sophon said. Sophon stated this vision.
When asked about the parliamentary building's construction warranty expiration on 15 Jul 2026 and unresolved damages, Sophon said two months ago he urged contractors to fix the issues as a policy. The process is being expedited. He will not interfere with details but insists all must follow legal procedures.
