Bangkok Increases Safety Inspections at Entertainment Venues in Ekkamai, Emphasizes Strict Law Enforcement

Bangkok has raised safety standards at entertainment venues by conducting thorough inspections in the Ekkamai area to build public confidence. Authorities emphasize strict law enforcement and invite the public to act as watchdogs by reporting risky establishments through Traffy Fondue.

On 16 July 2026, Pol. Gen. Adis Ngamjitsuksri, adviser to the Governor of Bangkok, along with Mr. Sitthichai Aranyakanon, assistant secretary to the governor, Ms. Pimjutha Sakunsitthada, director of Watthana district, together with district officials and local police, conducted integrated inspections of establishments and entertainment venues in Watthana district. The goal was to ensure operators comply strictly with laws and safety measures, aiming to build confidence among residents and tourists.

Enhancing proactive safety measures and enforcing legal compliance.

This inspection focused on proactive safety checks, ordering verification of electrical systems, emergency lights, firefighting equipment, and emergency exit signs to ensure they are always operational. Officials emphasized, “Emergency exits must remain clear, never locked or obstructed.” Visitor numbers were controlled to prevent exceeding capacity. Additionally, building safety was checked under the Building Control Act B.E. 2522 (1979), along with assessments of cleanliness and the building environment. Strict enforcement of the Tobacco Product Control Act B.E. 2560 (2017) and the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act B.E. 2551 (2008) was also applied to reduce all forms of risk.

The inspections found that several venues still had deficiencies requiring correction. The district office provided guidance to operators and issued orders to promptly address safety shortcomings to meet required standards. A deadline was set for compliance according to the law, with Watthana district planning to re-inspect within 30 days to confirm all venues adhere strictly to safety standards.

Emphasizing strict law enforcement and launching a public reporting system.

Bangkok authorities have instructed all involved officials to enforce laws rigorously and continuously to prevent violations, reduce fire hazards, and mitigate various safety risks. This aims to raise safety standards at establishments and protect the lives and property of the public.

Furthermore, Bangkok invites citizens to act as community watchdogs by reporting any risky establishments immediately through the Traffy Fondue platform. The city will manage this data as Open Data, keeping informants’ identities confidential to ensure safety and build trust among those providing information.
