Advisor to Dr. Sorn Boonbaichaiyapruck, Chairman of the NBTC, revealed they are currently seeking legal avenues against the NBTC selection board after its unanimous resolution declaring disqualifying characteristics, emphasizing that waiving rights is the individual's own prerogative.
17 Jul 2026 GMT+7 Mr. Patchara Naripthaphan, advisor to the Chairman of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), disclosed that currently the team of Dr. Sorn Boonbaichaiyapruck, Chairman of the NBTC, is considering how to legally proceed against the NBTC selection committee chaired by Mr. Kiattipong Amatayakul.
"It is understood that this committee lacks administrative authority to issue any administrative orders, so filing with the administrative court seems unlikely. However, the team is considering other legal actions if suitable approaches can be found, as such a resolution may cause disruption to the chairman's duties in the public eye."
The NBTC selection committee meeting unanimously resolved that Dr. Sorn Boonbaichaiyapruck, NBTC chairman, has disqualifying characteristics under Section 8 (2) of the Frequency Allocation Organization Act B.E. 2553 (2010), and is therefore deemed to have waived his rights to serve as an NBTC board member under Section 18 of the same Act, as amended by the 4th Amendment Act B.E. 2565 (2022). It is expected the selection committee will notify the NBTC chairman of this resolution.
Mr. Patchara further stated that the selection committee's claim that Dr. Sorn has disqualifying characteristics and thus has waived his rights is understood as Dr. Sorn's own decision. He accepted the nomination to serve and was officially appointed by royal command, having served correctly for over four years. As for all other allegations cited leading to the conclusion that Dr. Sorn has disqualifying characteristics, these are accusations that can be fully clarified.
