"Theng Natthapong" pointed out that the Ministry of Interior is the most vulnerable part of the "Anutin government," citing issues such as local exam corruption and spiritual leader controversies, and criticized the unstable Blue regime. He said he is ready to submit a no-confidence debate when the political context is appropriate.
17 July 2026 GMT+7 Natthapong Rueangpanyawut, a party-list Member of Parliament (MP) and leader of the People's Party, serving as opposition leader in the House of Representatives, gave an interview at Prince of Songkla University, Pattani campus, regarding the mission to visit China by Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul. He said that if the shadow cabinet's proposals are not taken into negotiations, it would be a missed opportunity. Although the Prime Minister's foreign trip may have a fixed schedule, diplomatic occasions, such as meetings during meals, can be used to discuss and solve problems. He believes that if the Prime Minister prioritizes all issues, including toxic substances contaminating rivers, gray capital, and spiritual leader controversies, every chance to consult with high-level Chinese leaders can be used. Furthermore, he believes that adopting a suitable stance and correct diplomatic approach will help Thailand address problems jointly with China.
Additionally, Natthapong spoke about the opportunity for a government no-confidence debate. He said, "Looking at the parliamentary seat count, we are not confident that the opposition votes can topple the government. Please follow the debate, but we cannot yet confirm exactly when it will be held." He added that this kind of government formation, as observed in the Blue regime, is unlikely to be stable for long. Although externally some speculate that other state mechanisms are connected within the same network, this government is inherently fragile. For example, the local exam corruption case may not have just arisen in this era, but since Anutin has long been Minister of Interior, the issue has started to become more visible. Certain political groups may be emerging in this regard. He believes the public will increasingly notice these issues. He noted that issues ranging from local exam corruption, support to the Blue regime, to civil registration work—all are surrounded by problems within the Ministry of Interior. This is the most vulnerable point of the government.
When asked whether the no-confidence debate or cabinet reshuffle would come first, following rumors of a government reshuffle late this year, Natthapong affirmed that the opposition will carry out a rigorous and full no-confidence process. However, the timing will be announced closer to the event. He also said, "When the political context is appropriate, I am ready to communicate with the public."
