On 18 July 2026, reporters from the People's Republic of China reported that Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, accompanied by a high-level Thai government delegation, is on an official mission in China from 16 to 20 July 2026. Today (18 July), the Prime Minister led the delegation from Shanghai to Chengdu, Sichuan Province, to fully promote economic, technological, and tourism cooperation.
In the morning at 08:30, the Prime Minister and his delegation departed from Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport and arrived at Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport at 11:30 local time (one hour ahead of Thailand). Upon arrival, the Prime Minister immediately began economic activities at the Tianfu International Convention Center, attending the “Prime Minister-Thai Private Sector Luncheon” to exchange views with 153 Thai private sector representatives and hear their suggestions for entering the Chinese market.
Subsequently, the Prime Minister presided over the opening ceremony of the “Thailand-China (Sichuan) Investment and Economic Forum 2026,” delivering the keynote speech outlining Thailand's vision and readiness to accommodate investment from Sichuan Province. He also jointly inaugurated the investment office at the Consulate General in Chengdu (BOI Chengdu Office) with senior Thai and Chinese executives, establishing a key mechanism to attract advanced investment capital into Thailand.
Reporters noted that a major event of the day was the Prime Minister's one-on-one meetings with leaders of six leading Chinese companies to promote concrete cooperation.
The discussions in the high-tech and automotive industries group (supported by BOI) included meetings with Xiaomi Corporation, a global technology and smartphone giant; ChangAn Automobile, a major Chinese car manufacturer with production bases in Thailand; InnoLight Technology, a leader in optoelectronic device innovation; and Eoptolink Technology, specialists in high-speed optical transmission systems.
In the tourism and service industry group (supported by the Tourism Authority of Thailand), the Prime Minister held talks with China Sichuan Airlines about increasing flights and direct routes connecting secondary and primary cities in Thailand. He also met with Meituan, a giant Chinese lifestyle and e-commerce platform, to attract higher-quality Chinese tourists to visit Thailand.
In the evening at 18:30, at the Chengdu Century City International Convention Center, Mr. Wang Xiaohui, Secretary of the Communist Party of China Sichuan Provincial Committee, paid a courtesy visit to the Prime Minister to discuss official matters and strengthen regional relations.
Following this, the Sichuan Communist Party Secretary hosted a gala dinner in honor of the Prime Minister and the Thai delegation.
