Social Security Office Accelerates Investigation of Hospital Over Doctor Neglect Case, Ensures Full Protection of Heirs Benefits

The Social Security Office is urgently investigating the facts regarding San Camillo Hospital’s case of a doctor neglecting a patient, which led to the insured person's death. If the treatment is found substandard, the hospital's capabilities will be cut, while fairness and full protection of the heirs’ benefits are assured.

On 18 July 2026, following reports on social media about the death of Mr. Phanupong Meesuk, age 31, an insured person entitled to medical services at San Camillo Hospital in Ratchaburi Province, who received treatment under his rights and later died.

The Social Security Office expresses deepest condolences to the deceased’s family and confirms it is not neglecting the incident, promptly conducting an urgent fact-finding investigation. Associate Professor Dr. Nakarin Pinpathomrat, Deputy Spokesperson for the Social Security Office, immediately visited the site to inspect the medical service standards. To ensure confidence in medical care standards, the Social Security Office has taken decisive actions as follows.

The Medical Service System Department sent an urgent letter to the private hospital director requesting factual clarification and a copy of the insured person’s medical records by 18 July 2026. Preliminary review shows that on 16 July 2026, the insured person was treated for breathlessness and chest pain radiating to the arm. He was first examined by an internist, then referred to an orthopedist, who concluded the symptoms were unrelated to bones and sent him back to the internist.

The doctor diagnosed the symptoms as anxiety. Although family members requested a heart examination because the insured person had excessive sweating and chest pain radiating to the arm, the request was denied, and he was sent home to rest. Around 4 p.m. the same day, the insured person went into shock, lost consciousness, and later died.

Currently, the Social Security Office is compiling all information to submit for discussion with the Subcommittee on Medical Service Quality Standards. If the investigation finds the hospital provided substandard care and breached the medical service contract, the Social Security Office will immediately impose sanctions by reducing the hospital’s insured patient quota.

The Social Security Office’s Deputy Spokesperson added that regarding protection and benefits for the heirs, the office is ready to fully support Mr. Phanupong’s rights. The heirs may contact any convenient Social Security Office branch to apply. The initial benefits include:

1. Funeral expenses amounting to 50,000 baht.

2. Old-age contribution funds totaling 58,405 baht plus accumulated interest.

3. Death welfare allowance of 30,000 baht.

Additionally, If it is found the insured person suffered harm from medical services, the heirs may apply for preliminary financial assistance at the Social Security Office. The case will be reviewed by the Subcommittee on Preliminary Assistance Payments, and if eligible for death compensation, the heirs may receive up to 400,000 baht.

The Social Security Office reaffirms its commitment to improving insured persons’ quality of life and will conduct a transparent and fair investigation in this case to maintain medical service standards as a trusted resource for all insured individuals.
