On 19 July 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that the government is closely watching the cost of living. The Prime Minister has assigned relevant agencies to monitor prices of essential goods and single-dish meals to ensure price adjustments align with actual costs following easing energy conditions. The Ministry of Commerce recently reported that some costs have begun to decrease, especially plastic packaging and transportation fees, which have fallen about 20% from their peak during the crisis. However, since some products are from existing stock produced during higher cost periods, the government must carefully oversee price reductions according to cost cycles to ensure fairness for all parties.
Additionally, the Department of Internal Trade invited over 80 producers, distributors, and retail chains to discuss and seek cooperation in maintaining stable prices for daily necessities such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, sugar, canned fish, instant noodles, and ready-to-drink milk. Regarding single-dish meals, the Ministry of Commerce is closely monitoring prices of primary ingredients like sticky rice, seasonings, meat, and various fresh vegetables, many of which have begun to stabilize and show signs of price decreases. The government affirmed it will employ all mechanisms, including legal measures, to prevent opportunistic price hikes and work with retailers on promotions to lower living costs, ensuring the public can access goods at the fairest prices.
