Thailand and China held full delegation talks to elevate their strategic partnership, advancing AI, space, and high-speed technologies, while signing agreements aiming to open new doors for the two countries.
On 20 July 2026 at East Hall, 1st floor, Great Hall of the People, Beijing, People's Republic of China, Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of Thailand, participated in full delegation talks with Mr. Li Qiang, Premier of the People's Republic of China, to advance the comprehensive strategic partnership between Thailand and China.
The discussions focused on building upon relations following the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties celebrated last year. Thailand proposed and agreed on five key areas including trade and investment, urging China to increase imports of high-quality fruits and processed foods, welcoming quality Chinese investment to integrate Thai businesses into supply chains, technology transfer, and accelerating the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) process.
Additionally, infrastructure connectivity plans include accelerating completion of Phase 1 of the Thailand-China high-speed rail by 2030, preparing Phase 2, and promoting the second Thailand-Laos Friendship Bridge, as well as the Chiang Khong-Na Tei-Mohan railway linking southern China, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. On security, they agreed to establish the 2+2 Mechanism for foreign affairs and defense consultations, with Thailand hosting the first meeting, and to expand cooperation in the defense industry. In science and innovation, cooperation will grow in AI, health technology, space, nuclear energy, and quantum computing. For transnational crime suppression, both sides will exchange information and intelligence to decisively dismantle call center fraud and financial scams.
Moreover, Thailand confirmed its readiness to participate in the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Shenzhen this November, thanked the Chinese government for supporting Thai tourism and for its constructive role regarding the Thai-Cambodian border situation. After the talks, leaders from both countries jointly witnessed the signing ceremony of 15 agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs).
