On 20 July 2026, Nattapong Ruangpanyawut, party-list MP and leader of the People’s Party, commented on the Prime Minister’s trip to the People's Republic of China. He said he does not oppose efforts to attract foreign investment, especially cooperation in AI, which was the main topic of negotiations. However, he noted that attracting investment alone may not fully benefit the country if proper infrastructure is lacking. What the government should prioritize to benefit the nation and strengthen Thailand’s regional bargaining power is clean energy. If energy infrastructure is seriously and properly restructured, both citizens and businesses will benefit, which would also support the AI technology industry. Yet, this visit did not show clear progress on this issue. Regarding other matters, the Prime Minister has not publicly communicated whether he used this opportunity to discuss solutions to other important issues affecting the public, such as river pollution, combating gray capital, and various forms of corruption. Nattapong believes Thai citizens are awaiting answers on these topics as well.
Nattapong said that he and other People’s Party leaders have met and discussed with the Chinese embassy, where the Chinese side confirmed readiness to cooperate. However, the key process must come from the Thai government by sending representatives to participate in a tripartite working group with China and Myanmar to deploy officials for fact-finding on the ground. The People’s Party has already submitted all relevant information, and the Chinese embassy has forwarded it directly to the Chinese government. What the Chinese authorities are waiting for now is clarity from the Thai side. The Chinese government is ready to work together to thoroughly root out call center gangs.
