On 17 July 2026 at the Southern Border Provinces Ranger Force, Ingkayuthaborihan Camp, Pattani Province, a joint meeting was held between military and police representatives. Colonel Sithisak Jenbunjong, commander of the Southern Border Provinces Ranger Force (representing Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 Forward), and Police Colonel Surasak Sitthiyai, deputy commander of the highway police (representing the Royal Thai Police), along with related agencies, attended to exchange official views.
This meeting arose from the case where a volunteer ranger assigned to the 48th Ranger Task Force was arrested by highway police and charged with carrying a firearm while traveling back to his hometown. Colonel Ekarit Chopchupol, deputy spokesperson for the Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 Forward, revealed that both sides have a mutual understanding and are committed to performing their duties within legal frameworks.
The meeting agreed that all officials act within their authority: the police enforce the law, while the military oversees personnel and supports security missions. Both agencies affirmed respect for the justice process and agreed to use lessons from this case to develop clearer, more effective, and standardized operational guidelines.
Additionally, both sides agreed to expedite studying regulations on personnel carrying firearms while traveling. They will focus on key points such as defining clear, correct documentation requirements, establishing an information notification system between military and highway police units, and creating real-time verification channels for firearm carrying rights and necessity to prevent misunderstandings or operational errors in the field.
The Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 Forward expressed confidence that this joint integration will lead to practical operational guidelines applicable in the field, building confidence and clarity for officers from both sides, while maintaining public safety and reinforcing trust in the justice process under a single, fair legal system.
