On 21 July 2569 at the Government House, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, in his capacity as chairman of the Police Commission (K.Tor.), spoke about his upcoming role as chairman for the 7/2569 K.Tor. meeting on 22 July, where a key agenda is to appoint the 16th National Police Chief, replacing Police General Kittirat Phanphet, who will retire on 30 September.
When reporters asked about the profile for the new National Police Chief under Anutin’s government, the Prime Minister said to wait for the meeting results. When pressed again, Anutin briefly said, “Talking about the specs gives me goosebumps.” Regarding whether seniority would be the main factor, he confirmed that all factors must be considered according to the law’s intent.
Asked about concerns that a new National Police Chief with many years left in service might hold power too long and limit opportunities for others, Anutin explained that whether the term is short or long, the important thing is to serve the nation’s interest. The key is the ability to maintain peace; if peace cannot be maintained, even if only six months or a year remain, reconsideration is necessary.
Reporters further inquired about certain candidates who have several years left in service or outstanding records, but the Prime Minister did not respond and instead cleared his throat and promptly left the interview.
