Deputy Minister of Education leads the Learning Promotion Agency in partnership with the Royal Thai Army to launch the "1 Year 1 Qualification" project to enhance the education level of conscripted soldiers alongside their national service.
On 21 Jul 2026 GMT+7, the Department of Learning Promotion (DLP), Ministry of Education, represented by Mr. Akkharanat Kankittinan, Deputy Minister of Education, and Ms. Kasetip Supawanich, Director-General of the DLP, together with the Royal Thai Army, represented by General Amarit Boonsuya, Assistant Commander of the Royal Thai Army, launched the "1 Year 1 Qualification" project under the Basic Education Qualification Promotion Curriculum B.E. 2567 (2024). The initiative offers conscripts who have not completed basic education the opportunity to develop themselves and raise their education qualification by at least one level within their one-year military service.
This project is a collaboration between the Ministry of Education and the Royal Thai Army to promote continuous education access for conscripts through flexible learning methods that accommodate military duties and schedules. It aims to enable participants to complete their education and receive qualifications useful for further studies or careers after discharge.
Mr. Akkharanat stated that the "1 Year 1 Qualification" project is a key policy designed to create educational opportunities for the country’s personnel. Military service should not be a time to halt learning but rather a period to develop personal potential simultaneously. No duty is greater than serving the nation, and nothing accompanies a person throughout life like education. Therefore, the intention is that the time youth and citizens spend in military service is not a time when educational opportunities cease but a time to build their future.
“Being a soldier means sacrificing to protect the nation, but while serving, we do not want the education opportunities of young people to stop. The "1 Year 1 Qualification" project was created so everyone can fulfill their duty to the country and advance their knowledge simultaneously. Upon discharge, they will have experience, discipline, and an educational qualification that can be used to pursue higher education or a career,” he added. Mr. Akkharanat said.
. The "1 Year 1 Qualification" project will offer flexible learning formats tailored to military unit duties, allowing study on-site, online, or through a hybrid approach. This represents a significant step in integrating cooperation between educational and security agencies to improve the quality of life for personnel by creating educational opportunities alongside instilling discipline, responsibility, and essential life and career skills for the future.
