The Cabinet has approved August 12 as a national important day and official public holiday to honor the royal grace of Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother.
On 21 July 2026, Ms. Ploytale Laksamee Sangchan, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, announced that the Cabinet resolved to recognize August 12 each year as the birthday of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, and as Thailand's Mother's Day, designating it as an official annual public holiday continuously.
This follows the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, on 24 October 2025, which brought great sorrow to the Thai people. In recognition of her gracious royal benevolence toward the nation and its people, the Thai populace deeply honors her kindness and acknowledges the significance of August 12.
Her Majesty graciously commanded the organization of royal merit-making ceremonies on her birthday. Therefore, the Prime Minister's Office recommended establishing this day as an official annual public holiday to allow for such royal commemorations to continue.
