Cabinet Approves Draft Royal Decree for By-election in Udon Thanis 3rd Constituency Following Rang Thuraphon Death

The Cabinet meeting approved a draft Royal Decree to hold a by-election for the Udon Thani 3rd constituency parliamentary seat to fill the vacancy, as proposed by the Election Commission, following the death of 'Rang Thuraphon'.


On 21 July 2026, Ms. Ploytale Laksamee Saengchan, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that the Cabinet approved the draft Royal Decree to hold a by-election for the Udon Thani 3rd constituency parliamentary seat to fill the vacancy, B.E. .... due to the end of the parliamentary membership of the Udon Thani 3rd constituency representative, Mr. Rang Thuraphon, which ended according to Section 101 (2) of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand B.E. 2560 (2017) on 20 July 2026, as proposed by the Office of the Election Commission (read more:Mourning “Rang Thuraphon,” MP for Udon Thani 3rd Constituency from the Bhumjaithai Party, who passed away)

As the parliamentary seat for Udon Thani 3rd constituency became vacant, Section 105, paragraph one (1) of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand states that when an elected parliamentary seat becomes vacant for any reason other than the expiration of the House of Representatives' term or its dissolution, a Royal Decree must be issued to hold a by-election within 45 days of the vacancy, unless the remaining term of the House is less than 180 days. Therefore, this Royal Decree is necessary.
