Pol. Lt. Gen. Rewat appeared at the Bhumjaithai Party office, saying he came to speak with Prime Minister Anutin and Worasil, volunteering to join the drug problem team without taking any position or salary. He affirmed he was not applying for party membership and wished to avoid political involvement.
At 15:15 on 21 July 2026, reporters reported that Pol. Lt. Gen. Rewat Klinkesorn the former commander of the Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB), arrived at the Bhumjaithai Party office accompanied by Mr. Chada Thaiset Member of Parliament for Uthai Thani from Bhumjaithai Party, and met with Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, who is also the party leader of Bhumjaithai, who was attending a meeting of Bhumjaithai MPs, greeting each other with a wai gesture.
When asked if his visit to the Bhumjaithai Party today was to apply for party membership, Pol. Lt. Gen. Rewat immediately denied it, saying it was unrelated. He came to pick up his niece nearby and happened to pass by Mr. Chada’s car, so they spoke by phone, and he then turned his car back to the Bhumjaithai Party without knowing that the Prime Minister would be there.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Rewat further explained that his visit today was to meet Mr. Chada and Mr. Worasil Liangprasit, Deputy Minister of Interior, because he wanted to ask the Prime Minister to gather the more than 2,000 drug-induced mentally ill patients nationwide for containment to ensure public safety. If any cases of such patients arise in any province, they should be reported to a central number for transfer since families cannot handle them. Previously, police would arrest them multiple times, referring them to doctors, who gave medication, but patients would discard it and cause harm repeatedly. He knows that Mr. Worasil is responsible for this issue and wanted to discuss it today. This was unplanned, but he met Mr. Chada and followed him to the party office.
When asked again if he was applying for party membership, Pol. Lt. Gen. Rewat reiterated he was not involved in politics. Reporters further asked if he would use his expertise as a former narcotics suppression commander to help with this issue. Pol. Lt. Gen. Rewat stated he intends to help without accepting any position, serving only as a behind-the-scenes team member if the government adopts this as policy, and he will not receive any position or salary.
