Chair of the NTBC Selection Committee Submits Resolution on Dr. Sorns Disqualification Today, Awaits PMs Discretion

The Chair of the NTBC selection committee revealed that the resolution on Dr. Sorn Boonbaichaiyapruck, Chair of the NTBC, being disqualified has been submitted today. Whether he must immediately stop performing his duties will be governed by administrative law. Regarding the royal endorsement, it depends on the Prime Minister's discretion.


At 16:20 on 21 July 2026 at the Parliament, during a meeting of the selection committee for the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission concerning the case Dr. Sorn Boonbaichaiyapruck, Chair of the NTBC. He has characteristics prohibited under Section 8(2) of the Act on the Organization for Frequency Allocation and Regulation of Radio, Television, and Telecommunications B.E. 2553 (2010) and its amendments, thus deemed to have forfeited the right to hold the position of NTBC commissioner under Section 18 of the same Act, amended by the Frequency Allocation Organization Act (No. 4) B.E. 2564 (2021).

Mr. Kiattipong Amatayakul, a Supreme Court judge, serving as Chair of the NTBC selection committee, revealed that the process of sending the NTBC selection committee's resolution to the Secretary-General of the Senate or the Prime Minister's Office is currently underway. Regarding whether Dr. Sorn must immediately cease duties, it should follow administrative law. We cannot overstep to adjudicate but may request a ruling.

When asked whether the Prime Minister must present the resolution for royal endorsement as is, Mr. Kiattipong stated that it depends on the Prime Minister's discretion. Regarding whether the selection committee can immediately find a replacement for Dr. Sorn, Mr. Kiattipong responded that it is not yet possible; they must wait for the Prime Minister's instructions.
