The Bhumjaithai Party is preparing to sue Yingcheep Atchanont of iLaw for defamation over allegations of collusion in selecting senators. They questioned the source of the evidence and criticized the vague accusations that also involved Anutin Charnvirakul and other Bhumjaithai ministers.
On 21 July 2026 at the Bhumjaithai Party headquarters, Supachai Jaisamut, party-list MP and legal representative of the Bhumjaithai Party, held a press conference regarding Yingcheep Atchanont, director of the Internet Law for People Project (iLaw), submitting evidence about the senator election collusion case to Parit Wacharasindhu, party-list MP and deputy leader of the People's Party, who also serves as chairman of the opposition coalition whip committee.
The letter requested the authority to investigate nine government officials. It stated that, based on iLaw’s investigation and evidence collection, there was behavior indicating the arrangement of candidates, ballot manipulation, and payments at local and national levels during the recent senator election — what is referred to as the senator collusion case. Those named by Yingcheep included Anutin Charnvirakul, leader of Bhumjaithai and current prime minister, along with eight others, some ministers in the current cabinet and others connected to Bhumjaithai Party.
Supachai said the statements in Yingcheep Atchanont’s petition and press conference clearly amounted to defamation of the nine individuals. The claims were said to be based on iLaw’s investigation and evidence gathering, but Supachai challenged Yingcheep to clarify where and how he obtained this information, and whether the investigation was truthful or false. The allegations were baseless and defamatory against all accused persons. The facts presented do not match the actual situation of those named. Therefore, the entire matter clearly constitutes false accusations and criminal defamation.
“Anutin Charnvirakul will take legal action against Yingcheep Atchanont for defamation. Everyone named in the statement and letter submitted to the opposition whip chairman will also pursue legal action against Yingcheep for his conduct,” Supachai stated. Supachai added,
Supachai concluded that the recent vague accusations citing investigations and evidence collection are unsupported by any proof. Consequently, following actions taken on 21 July, all individuals involved will proceed with legal cases against Yingcheep Atchanont.
