The Bangkok Governor is accelerating comprehensive inspections of establishments across the city following the fire at the Lardprao Beer House, having ordered the closure of 56 locations, while also launching Traffy Fondue to receive reports of fire risk points.
On 22 Jul 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, spoke about measures to inspect establishments after the fire at the Lardprao Beer House. He said Bangkok has expedited reviewing inspection measures in collaboration with relevant agencies, especially the Royal Thai Police and Bangkok officials, to raise safety standards and prevent recurrence.
The Governor said that lessons learned from the fire incident led to revising the inspection checklist. Using authority under the Public Health Act, they now inspect establishments that may pose hazards across multiple dimensions. A new, more detailed 17-item checklist was developed before instructing all district offices to conduct proactive, comprehensive inspections.
Regarding establishments under Bangkok's jurisdiction, which resemble service venues but are not classified as such under the law managed by the Royal Thai Police, there are a total of 1,091 sites. Over the past three days, 824 of these have been inspected.
Inspection results showed that 217 establishments passed all criteria, while 551 were ordered to rectify deficiencies. Additionally, 56 establishments were ordered to suspend or cease operations due to serious safety violations.
Mr. Chadchart said the law allows operators with minor issues to make corrections, but if serious risks are found, Bangkok will exercise its authority to order immediate closure. Inspections will continue over the next two months, including follow-ups to assess remediation.
Furthermore, some issues require operators to submit expert inspection reports, especially regarding internal electrical wiring systems and foam or soundproofing materials, as officials cannot verify such materials by visual inspection alone. Certified documents or expert assessments are necessary.
To enable public reporting of fire hazard points, the Traffy Fondue system has received 27 reports so far. Bangkok officials will promptly inspect these locations and take corrective action.
Mr. Chadchart added that this Saturday and Sunday, Bangkok will invite all operators in each district to meetings to explain the inspection checklist details and build a common understanding. He emphasized the importance of operators prioritizing user safety and strictly complying with regulations.
Regarding complaints about inspecting other venues beyond entertainment establishments, such as boxing stadiums, Mr. Chadchart said Bangkok will inspect all types of venues covered by building control laws, not just entertainment businesses. The law mandates strict safety measures for assembly halls, entertainment venues, and service establishments, including regular independent building inspections and periodic official inspections. Currently, Bangkok has about 14,000 such buildings, including boxing stadiums, and will review whether operators have submitted complete and lawful inspection reports.
On the progress of the investigation into the Lardprao Beer House fire, Mr. Chadchart revealed that the Permanent Secretary of Bangkok ordered the Director of the Chatuchak District Office to assist in the investigation starting last Friday to ensure transparency and efficiency. The Director was given 4–5 days to wrap up duties in his previous post before assuming the new role. A fact-finding committee has been appointed.
The Governor stressed that assigning the Chatuchak District Director to assist in the investigation is to ensure a thorough process and public confidence, not an implication of wrongdoing. The fact-finding committee has just begun its inquiry.
