22 July 2026 GMT+7 Mr. Chatchat Sitthiphan, Governor of Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) spoke to the press about the progress in the 'Father Thip - Mother Thip' case. After establishing a fact-finding committee, he stated that some officials have been accused of involvement in the case and have now been suspended from service. This must be handled seriously and strictly according to regulations. Currently, the investigation results are awaited as the fact-finding committee is appointed from the central level, chaired by the BMA Permanent Secretary.
Governor Chatchat added that the BMA has progressively tightened its procedures. Initially, there may have been some leniency among district officials who trusted hospitals extensively. Now, patterns have emerged showing that some districts control queue card issuance to prevent certain officials from serving particular people, while others allow contact with a single official. This raises concerns about possible ongoing corruption, so a strict and serious review is emphasized.
Meanwhile, regarding the 2026 Outstanding Anti-Corruption Individual Award from the Anti-Corruption Foundation, Governor Chatchat said the award was established before his term but was not publicly announced. When invited to receive the award, he had not yet assumed office. He stated that the award is not his alone but belongs to everyone in Bangkok, reflecting their dedication to work. It is not an individual award but one for all officials and staff who jointly work diligently against corruption. The award serves as encouragement, but there is still important work ahead. He believes they are on the right path but must work even harder.
