On 22 July 2026, Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and leader of Bhumjaithai Party, spoke about the Udon Thani Constituency 3 by-election to replace Rang Thurapol, the late Bhumjaithai MP. When asked if there would be talks with Pheu Thai, he said they have good relations within the coalition government and emphasized that today’s government is for the people of Thailand.
When asked if Pheu Thai would step aside for Bhumjaithai out of political courtesy since it is the former MP’s area, Anutin said he cannot speak for anyone else. Rang was the MP for Udon Thani. For Bhumjaithai, they must prepare a capable candidate ready to serve the local people and find the best person for the role.
Asked about the tradition of coalition parties stepping aside for each other, Anutin remarked that sometimes people break that tradition, and he cannot respond for that. He said not to pay attention to such matters and that they will simply send the best candidate for the people to decide. He added that winning would just break even, losing means only one person is gone, so there’s no need to overthink it.
Regarding concerns about the Kla Party, which has been growing in recent general elections, Anutin said that in election battles, the real concern is whether candidates are serving the people well. He said his MPs are all strong and none have ever felt certain of victory. He emphasized there is no such thing as a guaranteed win; MPs still visit their constituencies constantly. He added that they often have to be asked to attend party meetings because they want to be in the field. Ultimately, the outcome depends on the voters, and their decisions must be respected.
