On 22 July 2026 GMT+7, the Constitutional Court unanimously decided not to accept the petition filed by Ms. Natthida Nikrothangkura under constitutional Article 49. She requested the Court to rule on two issues: first, the actions of 308 Members of Parliament (MPs) who voted against allowing the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) to issue summons to MPs for allegations and investigation; second, the drafting of the Military Service Bill by MPs from the People's Party, which proposes changing compulsory military service into a right of Thai nationals rather than a duty for Thai men.
The petitioner argued that both actions constituted exercising rights or freedoms to overthrow the democratic regime under the monarchy.
The Constitutional Court deliberated and concluded that the facts and supporting documents did not provide clear and sufficient evidence that these actions amounted to exercising rights or freedoms to overthrow the government under constitutional Article 49, paragraph one. Therefore, the case did not meet the criteria or procedures required by law. The Court unanimously resolved not to accept the petition for consideration.
