The government stresses that September electricity bills apply the new rates. Every household is entitled to pay no more than 3 baht per unit for the first 200 units without registration. Meanwhile, State Welfare Card holders must register for the electricity subsidy by 30 September.
On 23 July 2026, Ms. Lalida Pertviwatana, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister’s Office, clarified that due to ongoing public confusion about the electricity rate adjustment and government assistance measures, the Ministry of Interior explains that the residential electricity rate adjustment approved by the National Energy Policy Committee (NEPC) restructures rates automatically for all residential users without registration or using any application. Meanwhile, the electricity subsidy for State Welfare Card holders still requires registration with the electricity authority to receive benefits under specified criteria.
The Deputy Spokesperson stated that the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) and the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA), under the Ministry of Interior, have expedited implementation of the NEPC resolution. The new electricity rates will apply to electricity usage starting August 2026 and be billed from the September 2026 billing cycle onward.
Regarding this rate restructuring, every residential household will automatically receive the benefit of paying no more than 3 baht per unit for the first 200 units without needing to register or take further action. Usage beyond 200 units will be charged at the previous rates. Additionally, rates for temporary meter types have been reduced to match residential rates to help lower household expenses.
Ms. Lalida added that besides the new rates, State Welfare Card holders continue to receive an electricity subsidy of up to 315 baht per household per month under the existing measures. However, eligible individuals must register with the electricity authority to receive this benefit. Registration is open from 20 July to 30 September 2026.
The Deputy Spokesperson further explained that according to the NEPC resolution, the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Energy, PEA, and MEA will separate public electricity costs from household electricity bills, which amounts to approximately 0.09 baht per unit. This separation will automatically reduce electricity costs for all households.
“The government reiterates that this residential electricity rate adjustment is a right for every household electricity user, requiring no registration or app downloads, with effects visible in bills for electricity used in August, billed in September 2026. For State Welfare Card holders wishing to receive the 315 baht monthly subsidy, please register with the electricity authority within the specified period to avoid missing out on this benefit.”
