"Wannor" emphasizes the need to enhance intelligence after attackers raided a ranger base, alongside sustainable peace negotiations.
On 23 Feb 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Wan Muhamad Nor Matha, an advisor to the Prime Minister, spoke about the unrest in the southern region, particularly the recent incident in Narathiwat province that resulted in the deaths of five ranger volunteers and officials. He stated that all involved parties must increase precautionary measures and improve coordination, especially "intelligence work," which needs to be faster and more accurate.
Mr. Wan Muhamad Nor said that if our intelligence system had been efficient enough, terrorists would not have been able to smuggle fully armed weapons for such an attack. Therefore, this incident must be analyzed seriously and thoroughly. He believes that preventive measures, security care in the area, and accelerating negotiations with dissenting groups to build lasting peace must be carried out simultaneously, as this is a shared benefit for all parties.
