The Deputy Minister of Education advocates Green STEM to develop environmentally conscious youth scientists, supports AI to elevate Thai education, and simultaneously promotes teachers toward global standards.
On 24 July 2026, Mr. Akaranat Kanakitinan, Deputy Minister of Education, chaired the opening of the 25th National Science and Mathematics Academic Conference (WTR 25) themed “Green STEM Education for Global Sustainability: Integration and Innovation” at Rajabhat Rajanagarindra University in Chachoengsao Province. The event was attended by Mr. Prasit Inthachot, Deputy Governor of Chachoengsao Province; Associate Professor Piniti Ratananukul, President of Rajabhat Rajanagarindra University Council; and Associate Professor Teeradej Jearsuksakul, Director of the Institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology (IPST).
Mr. Akaranat revealed that this conference marks a significant starting point in advancing the structure of Thai education. The Green STEM concept is not merely the event theme but focuses on integrating real environmental issues within science and mathematics teaching to develop practical life skills, rather than concentrating solely on exam scores.
He also emphasized the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, viewing AI not as a threat but as a vital tool enabling teachers to design personalized learning with greater accuracy and efficiency.
The Deputy Minister of Education affirmed that the Ministry is ready to drive nationwide teacher efforts through three main policies: reducing administrative workload to restore teachers’ time and dedication in classrooms; sustainably developing teachers through Professional Learning Communities (PLC); and elevating science and math standards internationally to prepare Thai students and enhance their performance in PISA evaluations.
“I commend the role of every teacher, as every classroom hour and every question that encourages children to think critically is the most valuable investment for the nation’s future. Teachers are the essential foundation to cultivate scientists, engineers, and innovators who will lead the country toward sustainability,” said Mr. Akaranat.
At the event, Mr. Akaranat presented “Model Teacher” awards to nine professionals who have made significant contributions as encouragement. He also toured exhibitions of STEM student projects on display, including innovations in coding and AI, research on metal powder extraction from electronic waste (E-Waste), and technology converting used trucks into electric vehicles (EV Conversion).
Associate Professor Teeradej Jearsuksakul, IPST Director, added that WTR 25 is a collaboration between IPST, Rajabhat Rajanagarindra University, and the National Institute of Educational Testing Service. It aims to serve as a central platform for teachers, educational personnel, and researchers to exchange knowledge, present academic work, and jointly develop innovations in science, mathematics, and technology for practical implementation in schools nationwide.
