24 July 2026 GMT+7 Nattakarn Chuchana, deputy spokesperson of the Democrat Party, commented on the case of unrest in the three southern border provinces. After armed insurgents used firearms and grenades to attack the Bukeh Sami checkpoint in Tan Yong Mat Subdistrict, Ra-ngae District, Narathiwat Province, on 22 July, resulting in the deaths of five rangers on duty and injuries to several civilians, the Democrat Party and he expressed deepest condolences and sent support to the families of the five rangers, as well as to officials and the local people affected by the ongoing unrest that has persisted daily since 2004.
: He called on the Prime Minister to establish clearer and more unified policies for managing the southern border provinces. Following the 22 July incident, there were clearly conflicting directions and communications between the policymakers, namely the Minister of Defense, and the operational forces, the Army. The Democrat Party supports the government in taking firm and serious action against the perpetrators, but insists this must strictly follow the rule of law.

On 18 June, Chuan Leekpai, a party-list MP for the Democrat Party, questioned the Prime Minister about implementing policies to resolve the southern border provinces’ problems according to the royal initiative of understanding, accessibility, and development, which is the main policy the Cabinet presented to Parliament, aiming to achieve shared understanding and concrete progress in addressing these issues."
