Sabida visits Seoul to attend the "Amazing Thailand: Masterpieces of Thai Art" exhibition, bringing 200 valuable ancient artifacts to showcase to the world in South Korea.
On 24 July 2026, Ms. Sabida Thaiset, Minister of Culture, accompanied by Ms. Saratsanan Arnanopphorn, Minister's Secretary, Mr. Saran Charoensuwan, Assistant Minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the delegation, who were attending the 48th Ordinary Session of the World Heritage Committee in Busan, Republic of Korea, visited Seoul to inspect the special exhibition "Amazing Thailand: Masterpieces of Thai Art" at the National Museum of Korea. She also held discussions with Professor Yoo Hong-jun, Director of the National Museum of Korea, to exchange best practices in world-class museum management.
Ms. Sabida revealed that this exhibition is organized under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Fine Arts Department of the Ministry of Culture and the National Museum of Korea. It marks the first time in history that over 208 precious ancient and artistic objects from more than 22 museums across Thailand have been brought to display in a special exhibition in the Republic of Korea.
Key ancient artifacts on display include the Miracle of Yama reliefs representing Dvaravati art, reflecting shared Theravada and Mahayana Buddhist beliefs; carved boundary stones depicting scenes from the Buddha's life such as the Sotthi Brahmin offering sugar cane and the Dharmachakra; and the eight-armed Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva statue.
The Minister of Culture added that the exhibition aims to convey Thailand's unique identity, history, and cultural diversity to international audiences, while strengthening strong ties through cultural exchange and artistic diplomacy. This display not only introduces fresh perspectives for Koreans and foreign tourists about Thai culture but also elevates museum and cultural cooperation between the two countries in a tangible and sustainable way.
The "Amazing Thailand: Masterpieces of Thai Art" exhibition is open to the public at the National Museum of Korea from 23 June to 6 September 2026. Afterwards, some artifacts will be displayed at Tongdosa Temple from 4 October to 4 December 2026. The organizers aim to attract at least 100,000 visitors throughout the exhibition period.
