The Interior Ministry Secretary has urgently ordered an upgrade of security in the southern border areas following the attack on the Ra-ngae base, directing a review of emergency response plans and proactive intelligence operations.
On 24 July 2026, Mr. Assit Sampanrat, Secretary of the Interior Ministry, revealed that armed assailants attacked personnel at the Buke Sami security checkpoint in Ra-ngae district, Narathiwat province, resulting in fatalities among forces and injuries to civilians. This brazen act disrupted peace and safety in the area. He issued an urgent directive to the governors of Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala, and Songkhla provinces to enhance measures maintaining order and to reassure both personnel and residents.
Mr. Assit further explained that the measures include three key points: upgrading security at government offices and checkpoints; reviewing security protocols at operational bases, district offices, provincial halls, and police stations; and revising duty shifts, patrol routes, entry and exit points, and working hours to avoid predictable patterns, while also improving the use of CCTV systems.
The plan also involves reviewing and rehearsing emergency response procedures, including joint exercises for potential attacks, suspicious objects, or explosives, to minimize losses and ensure systematic operations. A proactive information monitoring and alert system will integrate intelligence with security agencies, closely track local developments, and immediately report any risk signals to the Ministry of Interior.
"This directive aims to integrate all sectors to enhance security effectiveness, expedite investigations and evidence collection, provide urgent assistance to those affected, and ensure maximum safety for the local population," Mr. Assit stated.
