The Parliamentary Subcommittee on State Enterprises praised the government's energy policy, highlighting strong public acceptance and calling it a major revolution in the energy sector. They urged swift progress on Direct PPA to attract investment.
On 25 July 2026, Mr. Akkaradej Wongpitakroj, MP for Ratchaburi from the Bhumjaithai Party and chairman of the subcommittee reviewing the missions of the Commission on Courts, Independent Agencies, the Attorney General's Office, State Enterprises, Public Organizations, and Funds, commented on monitoring and evaluating the government’s energy policy implementation after its announcement. Overall, it has received positive public response and represents a significant energy reform never before undertaken by any government.
Mr. Akkaradej said that key policies the government has promoted with tangible results include unlocking the Direct Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) system, which allows the private sector to directly buy and sell electricity from clean energy producers; removing the public electricity cost burden from citizens’ electricity rate structures; and reducing rates for the first 200 units consumed, effectively easing the cost of living for the public.
"These policies represent a major energy revolution for the country because they address long-standing structural issues regarding electricity costs, fairness to consumers, and enhancing the nation’s competitiveness," Mr. Akkaradej stated.
Mr. Akkaradej also urged the government to expedite the practical implementation of Direct PPA to build confidence among both Thai and foreign investors, especially industries prioritizing clean energy use, which is a key factor in their investment decisions in Thailand.
Furthermore, the government should urgently consider clear, transparent, and fair management approaches for the power transmission system and related operational fees to ensure that energy market liberalization and direct electricity trading can be conducted efficiently, maximizing benefits for the country’s economy and its people in the long term.
