Veerayut, Deputy Leader of the Prachachon Party, declared that the government's withdrawal from the land bridge project should be the starting point for southern development based on cost-effectiveness and public participation, while closely monitoring concerns over the insertion of projects and budgets.
On 25 July 2026, Veerayut Kanchuchat, party-list MP and Deputy Leader of the Prachachon Party, commented on the government's withdrawal from the land bridge project, saying that many sectors of the public, including his party, have raised concerns about the project in three areas: investment cost-effectiveness, environmental impact, and geopolitical risks.
"We hope today's decision by the government to withdraw from the land bridge project marks the beginning of economic development in the South based on cost-effectiveness and public participation. We must continue to closely watch whether any projects or budgets are inserted improperly," he said.
Veerayut stated that since proposing policies for the February 2026 election, the Prachachon Party has advocated the Southern Port Link strategy to upgrade southern ports and regional logistics. This includes upgrading the Ranong-Songkhla ports, connecting the Chumphon-Ranong railway, and opening export channels on the Andaman coast linking Laem Chabang with China to reduce transport costs and sustainably enhance the southern economy.
"The southern economy still holds great potential, provided the government and civil service proceed with development based on straightforward principles and allow public participation," he added.
