On 25 July 2026, Ms. Lalida Pertwivatana, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister’s Office, disclosed that she had a telephone interview with Mr. Wu Zhiwu, Deputy Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Thailand, regarding Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul’s official visit to China from 16 to 20 July 2026. She also discussed the Prime Minister’s performance of the song “Tian Mi Mi” (meaning “Sweet”) by Teresa Teng at the luncheon hosted by Chinese Premier Li Qiang, which attracted significant media and public attention in both countries.
Mr. Wu Zhiwu stated that current Thai-Chinese relations are strong at all levels—from the royal families and governments to the people. Last year's official visit by His Majesty the King and Queen to China was a great success and widely praised by the Chinese public. Meanwhile, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn is deeply respected by the Chinese people and has played an important ongoing role in promoting cooperation between the two countries.
The Chinese Deputy Ambassador said Prime Minister Anutin’s visit to China was highly successful. The Prime Minister met with President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang, and Zhao Leji, Chairman of the National People's Congress. He also visited Shanghai and Chengdu, meeting leading Chinese entrepreneurs who expressed strong confidence and readiness to expand economic, trade, and investment cooperation with Thailand. Both sides signed 15 agreements and issued a joint statement reflecting consensus to elevate Thailand-China cooperation in the coming period.
Mr. Wu noted that President Xi Jinping told Prime Minister Anutin, "The centuries-old friendship between China and Thailand grows ever stronger over time. Both sides treat each other with sincerity and mutual trust, forging a 'China-Thailand brotherhood' relationship. China highly values developing relations with Thailand within the framework of neighbor diplomacy and has always been a trusted and dependable strategic partner for Thailand."
He added that the important mission ahead is to jointly promote the leaders' consensus into concrete results so that the people of both countries truly benefit from the cooperation and experience the "sweetness like Tian Mi Mi."
When asked about the role of music and cultural exchanges in strengthening bilateral relations, Mr. Wu said the song "Tian Mi Mi" is widely popular in China, Thailand, and among overseas Chinese communities. Singing this song during friendly gatherings creates an atmosphere of warmth, friendship, and mutual understanding. "I call this 'Music Diplomacy,' which wins people's hearts. We all applauded and admired the Prime Minister unanimously."
Ms. Lalida said the Deputy Ambassador’s statements reflect the positive reception of the Prime Minister’s visit in terms of leadership relations, economic, trade, and investment cooperation, and people-to-people ties.
