Interior Ministry Approves Extension for Free Water Fee Registration Until 30 Sep 2026

The Interior Ministry's third deputy minister endorsed the Finance Ministry's resolution, instructing the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (MWA) to extend the registration period for the state welfare water bill discount program until 30 September 2026.

On 28 July 2026, Mr. Jeset Thaiset, Deputy Minister of the Interior (Interior Ministry's third deputy minister), announced that the Interior Ministry, through the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (MWA), is prepared to comply with the Finance Ministry's new regulations by extending the registration period for confirming eligibility for water bill welfare benefits under the 2026 state welfare program until 30 September 2026. This extension aims to give low-income and vulnerable groups in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, and Samut Prakan full access to assistance.

Mr. Jeset stated that the government and Interior Ministry prioritize reducing living costs, especially basic utility expenses. Therefore, they have instructed the MWA to prepare both systems and personnel to facilitate citizens, effectively supporting the policies "Relieve Suffering, Promote Well-being" and "Interior Ministry Acts Immediately (Action 5 Plus)."

Ms. Suwara Tawichasri, Governor of the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority, explained that this water bill assistance is capped at 100 baht per household per month (one household registration equals one entitlement). The subsidy is based on actual water usage as follows: if usage costs do not exceed 100 baht, the government fully subsidizes the amount; if usage costs exceed 100 baht but are no more than 315 baht, the government subsidizes 100 baht and the user pays the remainder; if usage exceeds 315 baht, the user must pay the full amount.

Regarding registration conditions, beneficiaries of the 2026 state welfare program must complete identity verification (e-KYC) at least one day before confirming eligibility with the MWA via the online website MWA e-Service (https://eservicesapp.mwa.co.th/ES/MWAWelfareServlet). Registration is open from now until 30 September 2026, with benefits starting from the November 2026 water bill cycle onward.

Existing beneficiaries from the 2022 program will continue receiving welfare benefits until the October 2026 billing cycle. However, if eligible individuals miss registering by 30 September, they may still complete identity verification and register by the 25th of each month to receive benefits in the next billing cycle. In all cases, retroactive benefits are not allowed.
