The Army spokesperson explained that a soldier was injured during a bomb disposal mission, resulting in the loss of the left ankle and shrapnel wounds on the body.
At 19:58 on 29 Jul 2026, Major General Winthai Suwaree, Army spokesperson, stated that the Army received a report from the First Army Region about a soldier injured by stepping on a landmine during a bomb disposal operation conducted by Humanitarian Mine Action Unit 1 (HMAU 1) in a previously dangerous area that was formerly a minefield near Ban Nong Jan, Non Mak Mun Subdistrict, Khok Sung District, Sa Kaeo Province. Over the years, HMAU 1 has secured 76.73% of the area. They have found a total of 489 mines and unexploded ordnance and will continue their mission to fully secure the area. As a result of the incident, the soldier lost the left ankle and sustained shrapnel wounds. Medical personnel provided immediate assistance and transported him to Aranyaprathet Hospital, where he is now under close medical supervision.
Major General Winthai said the Army Commander has instructed relevant units to provide full care for the injured soldier, including medical treatment, rehabilitation, and all rights and benefits. He also emphasized that all personnel must carry out their missions with utmost caution and avoid negligence, always prioritizing safety to ensure efficient progress in creating safe areas for the border communities continuously.
