Deputy Transport Minister Patthapong revealed that Ubon Airport has set a new passenger record (New High) and ordered the Department of Airports to strengthen convenience and safety measures during the long holiday period.
On 30 July 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Patthapong Pataraprasit, Deputy Minister of Transport, reported on travel through airports under the Department of Airports during the extended holiday celebrating the King’s birthday, Asalha Puja, and Buddhist Lent Day. He said the atmosphere was lively with many citizens and tourists traveling back to their hometowns and exploring various regions.
The Deputy Minister added that to accommodate the rising passenger volume, he instructed all airports under the Department of Airports to manage services and strictly maintain safety standards. This includes inspecting facilitation systems such as X-ray machines, CCTV cameras, and electrical systems, deploying sufficient staff at service points especially during peak times to reduce congestion, managing traffic within airports, and integrating public transportation for seamless connections to cities and tourist destinations.
Passenger statistics show that Ubon Ratchathani Airport set a new daily record of 4,931 passengers on 28 July 2026 GMT+7, coinciding with the Ubon Ratchathani Candle Festival held from 28 to 30 July 2026 GMT+7. The airport collaborated with provincial transport authorities and the Tourism Authority of Thailand to provide free shuttle services for tourists.
Additionally, the public was encouraged to travel and experience local culture in the northeastern region and across the country to stimulate the economy and distribute income to communities. This aligns with the “Airport for Regional Development” policy, aiming to drive regional airports as key mechanisms for tourism and transportation in Thailand.
