Phiphat is accelerating transport expansion into the regions, focusing on development in Isan and the South to connect the economy, reduce travel time, support agricultural product transport, lower logistics costs, and stimulate sustainable income generation.
On 30 Jul 2026 GMT+7, Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, outlined Thailand’s transport infrastructure development direction. The government is rapidly adjusting transport network development to be flexible, suitable, and aligned with current economic contexts and public needs. The focus is on connecting key economic zones nationwide to enhance travel convenience and safety while tangibly reducing business logistics costs. The South and Isan regions have been designated pilot areas for key projects aimed at infrastructure development directly impacting local residents’ lives.
Phiphat emphasized that current transport development must deliver real benefits and value to the public. The government focuses on systematically integrated transport networks that meet everyday needs. In the South, plans include upgrading main highways, accelerating double-track railway projects to improve passenger and freight transport efficiency, and developing transport links between key tourist sites on the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea sides. Concurrently, ports and regional airports will be improved and upgraded to sustainably support growth in trade and tourism.
In Isan, the government plans to accelerate high-speed rail and double-track railway projects to establish strategic freight and travel routes connecting Bangkok directly to the Northeast and extending links to neighboring countries to drive cross-border economic opportunities. Additionally, major and secondary highway networks will be expanded and improved to support agricultural product transport, which is central to the regional economy. The government is confident these transport network upgrades will not only enhance travel convenience and safety but also serve as key mechanisms to spread prosperity, reduce inequality, and sustainably boost the country’s long-term competitiveness.
