The Secretary-General of the Internal Security Operations Command presided over the royal cremation ceremony for brave soldier Sergeant Major Theerayut Somakerd, emphasizing honorable care for his family and a firm commitment to pursue the perpetrators through the justice system.
On 30 July 2026, General Chaipruk Duangpraphat, Army Chief of Staff and Secretary-General of the Internal Security Operations Command, presided over the royal cremation ceremony of Sergeant Major Theerayut Somakerd, a member of the 45th Ranger Regiment who died after attackers used firearms and pipe bombs to assault officers at the Bukeh Sami checkpoint, Ton Yong Mas Subdistrict, Ra-ngae District, Narathiwat Province, on 22 July 2026. The ceremony was held at Phanom Temple, Phanom District, Surat Thani Province.
At the occasion, the Army Chief of Staff expressed condolences and support to the deceased’s family, relatives, and close associates. He paid tribute to Sergeant Major Theerayut Somakerd’s courage and sacrifice, recognizing his strong dedication and ultimate sacrifice to protect public safety as well as Thai sovereignty and territory.
Additionally, he represented the army in presenting the Thai national flag to honor the fallen soldier. Financial support was also given, including morale funds, compensation from the “Protecting Troops Project,” and various welfare benefits totaling 4,144,761 baht to Sergeant Major Theerayut Somakerd’s heirs. The army affirmed its full commitment to uphold the rights, welfare, and quality of life for the family of the fallen soldier with dignity and dedication.
Security forces will intensify efforts to track down the perpetrators and their supporters to ensure they face the full extent of justice. Strict legal measures will be enforced to build confidence among troops and the public and to ensure that the sacrifice of this brave soldier is not in vain.
