The government is accelerating the review of state welfare card entitlements, facilitating appeals from owners of old vehicles, with over 210,000 appeals already submitted. Those wishing to request a review can still file applications until 31 August 2026 GMT+7.
On 31 July 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister, revealed that following the Cabinet’s acknowledgment of revised criteria for vehicle ownership under the 2026 State Welfare Registration Project, the Department of Land Transport is collecting data on eligible individuals to restore rights from 214 provincial transport offices nationwide and One Stop Service centers of the Ministry of Interior at the district level. This information will be forwarded to the Ministry of Finance to reinstate benefits under the program automatically, without requiring citizens to submit additional appeals or actions.
The spokesperson stated that this effort is a government inter-agency data integration to facilitate convenience for the public and reduce travel and redundant paperwork. The official number of beneficiaries who will have their rights restored will be announced after data collection and verification from all agencies is complete.
Regarding the post-criteria adjustment review process, data from the Department of Land Transport shows over 210,000 appeals filed, covering about 370,000 vehicles: approximately 310,000 motorcycles, 64,000 cars, and over 2,000 other vehicles. The province with the highest number of appeals is Nakhon Ratchasima, followed by Chiang Mai, Lampang, Phetchabun, and Narathiwat. The main reasons for appeals are vehicles exceeding the age limits set, informal transfers, and vehicles no longer operational.
Ms. Ratchada said the new criteria exclude motorcycles aged 15 years or older and cars, trailers, and agricultural vehicles aged 20 years or older from eligibility consideration. This adjustment better reflects the actual use of assets by citizens and ensures a fairer rights assessment.
“The government has revised eligibility verification criteria for the 2026 State Welfare Registration to align with citizens’ real circumstances, facilitating convenience by linking data across agencies to reduce paperwork and appeals. Those wishing to request a rights review can still submit applications until 31 August 2026 GMT+7. Eligibility will be granted in accordance with the program’s qualifications and conditions,” she added.
