Two Kla Tham party MPs led the Tourism Committee team on a field visit to Phuket to monitor and accelerate the implementation of Green Tourism in preparation for the high season.
On 31 July, the Tourism Committee of the House of Representatives, led by Lieutenant Colonel Sinthop Kaewpichit, MP for Nakhon Pathom from the Kla Tham party and chair of the committee, along with Ms. Orathai Kerdsub, MP for Phuket and vice chair of the committee, visited Phuket to monitor tourism conditions, hear problems and suggestions from all sectors, and push for solutions through the committee’s mechanisms to enhance Thailand’s tourism capacity ahead of the upcoming high season.
The committee began its visit at Phuket International Airport, where representatives from Phuket Airport, the Immigration Office, Sakoo Police Station, Mai Khao Subdistrict Headman, and related agencies provided information and exchanged views on airport management and traveler facilitation.
Key discussion points included developing immigration systems using E-Passport technology and Automated Border Control (ABC) to speed up immigration processing; managing the international passenger baggage conveyor system; improving restrooms in both domestic and international terminals; projects to renovate and expand passenger terminals to accommodate increasing tourist numbers; and organizing traffic flow in front of the airport to enhance convenience and safety for users.
Information gathered showed that related agencies have been actively upgrading infrastructure and facilitation systems, especially by integrating technology into immigration processes. This aims to reduce passenger wait times and improve service efficiency to support tourist travel during the year-end high season.
The Tourism Committee then proceeded to Phuket Provincial Hall to hold a joint meeting with government and private sector representatives to gather opinions on the province’s tourism development. Discussions focused on promoting Green Tourism policies to elevate Phuket as a sustainable tourist city, aiming to balance economic growth, environmental conservation, and local residents’ quality of life.
The Tourism Committee affirmed it will compile all feedback and problems identified during the visit to submit for committee consideration and push relevant agencies to promptly resolve issues and concretely enhance Thailand’s tourism capabilities, supporting long-term growth of the tourism industry.
