On 1 August 2026 in Suphanburi province, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Chanvirakul addressed calls for the death penalty for suspects in the killings of two Russian siblings and a Thai family of three. He said the legal process must be followed and that repeated offenders will be dealt with decisively. He is traveling to Chonburi to urge acceleration and precision in case preparation, ensuring the perpetrators receive the maximum penalties fitting their crimes. However, he cautioned against expressing opinions on what punishments should be imposed, as that is the court's role. He emphasized the need for police and the Office of the Attorney General to cooperate and expedite the investigation since these crimes not only shock the Thai people but also damage Thailand's image. He assured the public to remain confident and not worry, affirming full commitment to the case. He noted that release from prison happens after serving sentences according to legal procedures, but if someone reoffends after release, harsher penalties will apply. He stressed the importance of thorough and careful police work in this case.
The Prime Minister also said that since the victims are foreigners, authorities must provide the highest level of assistance possible. The mother of the two tourists is currently in Thailand, and officials will coordinate to support her fully. When asked why he is visiting the area, he said it is to ensure all processes, including the investigation and repatriation of the victims' bodies, proceed as quickly as possible. Thailand must also express its sorrow over this incident. Authorities must facilitate the victims and reassure the global community that such events will not happen again.
Regarding instructions to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the Prime Minister said all parties must be urged to act. The ministry strives to promote Thailand, register tour guides and businesses, and facilitate various services. However, security is a police responsibility. In this case, the suspects reportedly used police insignia to intimidate and harm the victims, which must be addressed. Authorities must investigate and clarify how such incidents occurred.
"Please be assured that I will never let them go; I will ensure they receive punishment proportional to their actions. It is not just two victims, but five in total. I think as the public does, but as Prime Minister, I cannot say so openly. Nonetheless, I will make sure everything is handled properly."
