Surasak expressed regret over the murder of a Russian tourist, ordered enhanced security measures, and reaffirmed Thailand's priority on tourist safety.
On 1 August 2026, Mr. Surasak Pancharoenworakul, Minister of Tourism and Sports, expressed deep sorrow and apologized to the family of the Russian tourist who died in a crime incident in Chonburi province. He confirmed that the Thai government, led by Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, has closely monitored the situation and instructed all agencies to swiftly and transparently resolve the case, restore justice for the victim, and rehabilitate the country's image and confidence.
The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has coordinated with the Russian Embassy in Thailand, the Royal Thai Police, tourist police, and local agencies to fully support and assist the bereaved family. It has also ordered an upgrade of security measures at tourist sites nationwide, including increasing patrols in high-risk areas, integrating security data, using CCTV systems, and ensuring readiness of the 24-hour Tourist Assistance Center (TAC).
Mr. Surasak stressed that although this is an isolated criminal case, the government will use the facts to improve safety measures and strictly enforce the law against offenders without exception, to reassure millions of tourists worldwide that Thailand prioritizes the rights and welfare of all visitors.
