Anutin is set to visit Indonesia on 3-4 August 2026, marking the first official visit by a Thai prime minister in 15 years to advance trade, investment, and the strategic partnership that benefits Thai citizens.
On 2 August 2026, Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, announced that Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul is scheduled to make an official visit to the Republic of Indonesia from 3 to 4 August 2026. He will meet with President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia, marking the first official visit by a Thai prime minister to Indonesia in 15 years.
This visit reflects the government's proactive foreign policy, using leadership-level relations as a mechanism to open economic doors and build upon the Thai-Indonesian strategic partnership toward concrete projects and cooperation, especially in trade, investment, tourism, security, food security, energy, education, and business sector collaboration.
The government spokesperson added that Indonesia, with the largest economy and a population of 280 million in ASEAN, is a major market, key investment destination, and potential partner for Thai entrepreneurs. Strengthening ties between the two countries will open opportunities for Thai goods and services to enter the Indonesian market more extensively, connect supply chains, promote mutual investment, and create new opportunities for both large businesses and SMEs.
She also revealed that the government aims for foreign visits to bring clear benefits to the public, including expanding agricultural and food product markets, increasing tourist numbers, creating jobs, developing workforce skills, and exchanging knowledge and technology in sectors where both countries have strengths.
"This visit is not merely to strengthen friendship between leaders but to transform good relations into opportunities for trade, investment, and income generation. The government seeks to make foreign affairs a tool to strengthen the economy and improve people's quality of life concretely," she said.
Ms. Ratchada further stated that beyond bilateral aspects, Thailand and Indonesia are founding ASEAN members playing key roles in the region's direction. This meeting offers an opportunity for both leaders to promote ASEAN unity, strength, and effective responses to global economic changes, transnational crime, and geopolitical situations.
Both sides will exchange approaches to promote cooperation in economics, security, regional connectivity, food, energy, and sustainable development, including creating a business-friendly environment so ASEAN remains a region of peace, stability, and economic opportunity for all its peoples.
Simultaneously, this visit provides an important platform for the prime minister to present Thailand's foreign policy vision at the ASEAN Secretariat, demonstrating Thailand's role in shaping the region's future and preparing for its ASEAN chairmanship in 2028, focusing on building a unified ASEAN with economic resilience, people-centered growth, and balanced, sustainable development.
However, this mission reflects the government's foreign policy approach that looks beyond ceremonial visits, aiming to build strategic alliances, maintain balanced international relations, and enhance Thailand's economic bargaining power amid global competition and uncertainty.
Key schedule details: On 3 August 2026, the prime minister and delegation will travel from Military Airport 2, Wing 6 to Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in Jakarta, Indonesia, then attend an official welcome ceremony, conduct small group talks between leaders, hold full delegation discussions, and a joint press conference at the Indonesian presidential palace.
On 4 August 2026, the prime minister will attend the opening of the Business Forum organized by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) with the Thai Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia to connect businesses and promote investment opportunities between the two countries. Afterwards, he will visit the ASEAN Secretariat to meet the ASEAN Secretary-General to discuss regional cooperation and deliver a speech outlining Thailand's vision for ASEAN's future, then meet with Indonesian private sector representatives to explore further business collaboration opportunities before returning to Thailand in the evening after completing the mission.
