Siripong visited Ubon Ratchathani and Sisaket to follow up on the development of feeder systems connecting the rail network, laying the groundwork for double-track railways to boost trade, investment, and tourism in the future.
On 2 Aug 2026 GMT+7, Siripong Angkasugkrit, Deputy Minister of Transport, conducted an official inspection in Ubon Ratchathani and Sisaket provinces to monitor the enhancement of rail and road transport systems. He visited Sisaket Railway Station with Pichit Kunathamrak, Director-General of the Department of Rail Transport, and department officials to review train services, passenger and freight management, and to hear plans for station area improvements around the fountain roundabout. Upgrades include resurfacing the fountain area at street level, lighting, and landscaping to improve public travel experience.
Siripong stated that Sisaket Railway Station is a key station on the northeastern rail line connecting Bangkok with the lower northeastern region. Currently, 20 trains serve the station daily, accommodating about 1,900 passengers on average. The station also integrates with local transport modes including songthaews, taxis, vans, and motorcycle taxis, facilitating convenient travel for the public.
Furthermore, Sisaket Railway Station will connect to the double-track railway project on the Chum Thang Thon Chira–Ubon Ratchathani segment, which is being prepared for Cabinet consideration to upgrade service quality, enhance travel connectivity, and support the area's economic growth.
The Deputy Minister of Transport said he held discussions with relevant agencies and the Sisaket Chamber of Commerce to gather suggestions and exchange views on developing the province’s transport system to accommodate sustainable growth in the economy, trade, investment, and tourism.
The Ministry of Transport prioritizes rail system development alongside transport infrastructure to enable seamless travel and freight movement among rail, public transit, and road networks. This integration facilitates travel convenience, logistics efficiency, lowers transport costs, and supports long-term economic development.
Ubon Ratchathani and Sisaket provinces are strategic areas with economic, trade, investment potential, and connections to neighboring countries. Aligning rail development with transport infrastructure will provide more travel options, enhance freight transport efficiency, and strengthen the transport network’s completeness to drive the long-term economic growth of the lower northeastern region.
The Ministry of Transport is ready to coordinate with all agencies to advance transport infrastructure development in line with government policy. The goal is to elevate the rail system as the country’s main transport mode, improve logistics efficiency, enhance quality of life, and strengthen national competitiveness sustainably.
