'Worasit,' Deputy Minister of Interior, vowed that by August, the removal of those involved in local exam fraud from their positions will be seen, describing it as the largest fraud case in history.
At 11:30 a.m. on 3 August 2026 at the Ministry of Interior, Mr. Worasit Liangprasert, Deputy Minister of Interior, spoke about the progress of the investigation into local exam fraud. He said everything began with the discovery of fraud in June. "We are handling the biggest fraud case in history, involving tens of thousands of people. After over a month and ten days, we have identified 5,925 individuals involved. The criminal justice system, National Anti-Corruption Commission, and police have been making arrests and filing charges progressively. Following meetings of the Central Local Personnel Examination Committee (กสถ.) on 5 August and the Central Committee for Local Administrative Personnel Management (ก กลาง) on 6 August, the cases will be sent to provincial committees. This urgent matter will likely require only a few days of meetings after receiving the cases from ก กลาง. Then it will be the responsibility of local administrators to proceed with removing the corrupt officials. We believe the removals will be completed within August. Currently, at the start of the month, the provinces are processing the cases, which should not take long. Once these individuals are removed, vacancies will arise. The กสถ. must then decide how to manage promoting candidates from the waiting lists."
Regarding whether the identities of those involved in the exam fraud will be publicly disclosed, Mr. Worasit said that legal advice is needed to determine if disclosure is possible. However, it is necessary to show which areas have problems. Anyone involved in the fraud must face criminal penalties because their actions were deliberate and improper, not mere procedural errors. They intentionally enabled unqualified individuals to become civil servants. Criminal matters will be handled by the police. When asked about salaries these individuals received, Mr. Worasit stated they should not have been paid at all.
