A People's Party MP submitted a request to the military committee to investigate the construction of military bunkers in Chanthaburi and Trat provinces after complaints that they are unsafe, consisting only of thin concrete slabs as walls that cannot protect against bullets or bomb shrapnel.
At 14:00 on 3 Aug 2026 at the parliament, Mr. Chat Supattavanich, MP for Nakhon Ratchasima from the People's Party and Deputy Chairman of the House Military Committee, announced that he had submitted a request for the military committee to investigate the facts about the construction of military protection bunkers in Chanthaburi and Trat provinces. Complaints stated that the bunkers were built using only thin precast concrete panels as walls, natural wood logs as weight-bearing supports, and wood combined with plastic to support soil on the roof, raising three main concerns.
1. Risk and danger to life: Such bunker structures risk collapsing, especially in the rainy season when the soil on the roof becomes heavier. During operations, they may not withstand bullets or bomb shrapnel protection.
2. Poor quality and lack of value: The bunkers do not meet military engineering standards for personnel protection.
3. Budget concerns: It was found that a budget of 50,000 baht per bunker was approved, but actual orders were made at a price of 35,000 baht each, totaling 90 bunkers.
Mr. Chat added that he suspected possible misuse of budget funds and thus submitted a letter to the military committee chairman to ensure government spending is efficient, effective, and verifiable to protect border personnel safety. He will request documents from responsible agencies, including work scopes, bills of quantities and prices, procurement contracts, and project acceptance documents, and will invite relevant agencies to attend future military committee meetings.
